Neutering, spaying or castrating your cat is essential to control unwanted pregnancies and to help reduce the overpopulation of strays in desperate need of a good home. Not only is this a responsible thing to do as a cat owner, but it is also helpful to reduce the risks of some cancers, other potential health concerns and unwanted behaviours.

What is spaying or neutering?

Spaying is the surgical removal of the ovaries and often the uterus from female cats. Castrating/Spaying is the surgical removal of the testes from male cats.

When should I neuter/spay my cat?

We recommend spaying or castrating your cat at 6 months of age. It is very important to spay your female cat BEFORE her first heat cycle. Neutering a male cat at 6 months of age can help lessen the chance of spraying and marking items with urine.
