Keep your puppy protected with a vaccination plan. Contact us today to book an appointment.
At Oakbank Animal Hospital, we believe the best (and in many cases the most important) medicine is prevention. Due to underdeveloped immune systems, puppies are at the greatest risk of contracting a serious and sometimes deadly disease such as Canine Distemper or Parvovirus, both of which can be avoided with vaccines.
For puppies, we offer Canine Distemper, Parvovirus and Adenovirus as our core “combo” vaccine as well as Rabies and Bordetella (kennel cough).
It is important to properly vaccinate your puppy to reduce the risk of contracting a potentially life-threatening disease. Due to their underdeveloped immune systems, puppies are more prone to contract a virus compared to an adult dog. Vaccinating too early, missing or significantly delaying a booster vaccine can impede your puppy’s ability to build the proper antibodies required to fight viruses.
We recommend that puppies receive their first core vaccination at 8-weeks-old, followed by vaccine boosters at 12 and 16 weeks of age.
Here at the Oakbank Animal Hospital, we strive to make your puppy’s first visit as stress-free as possible. The appointment will begin with a veterinary technician reviewing the basic husbandry and home care for your puppy with you. Next, a veterinarian will perform a physical exam to access your puppy’s overall health. This includes an examination of the eyes, ears, teeth and heart to check for any abnormalities. Our veterinary team has a wealth of knowledge and is an excellent resource for nutritional recommendations, parasite prevention and training recommendations. They will also educate you on your puppy’s growing needs as well as what to expect during the first year of your puppy’s life.
